Final Evaluation
Compared to the
pre-production, the final result linked quite closely, this is mainly because
of the codes and conventions I utilised. What was different to the initial plan
was the structure of the programme; due to the establishing shots attained and
the time limitations, the order of segments were less interconnected than
expected, e.g. all the Vox-Pops were placed together rather than being more
scattered.
On a much less
structural basis, the planning for the practical production was different. The
cost was far cheaper than anticipated. The availability of personnel came as an
issue too; on the day originally intended to conduct our informal interview
with a youth spokesperson (Lily) we were unable to use the space desired and
had to wait another few days as Beyond Retro did not have the space. This,
consequently, lead to having to rehire equipment and becoming behind schedule.
Furthermore,
reshoots were necessary after learning that the recorded sound was an issue –
The sound contained a loud hissing noise throughout. Unfortunately, as fate
would have it, the microphone used for the reshoots was faulty and only what
was recorded on the camera could be used, which meant the sound was a huge
problem for the production. Peers noticed this complication in their review and
was one of the main negatives, meaning it was of much greater importance than
hoped. However, with the help of the post-production effects, the sound became
less of a problem in the edit. For future reference, I know to check every bit
of equipment thoroughly to avoid this. On the topic of sound, the music used
was royalty free and had the clearances to be used for original productions and
to be shown publicly.
